The Wild Alaska Sole Fishery

Feeding the world sustainably and with heart

Feeding the World

The Wild Alaska Sole fishery is one of the most abundant fisheries in Alaska and the largest flatfish fishery in the world. The strength and health of our fish stocks and our sustainability practices allow us to produce over 600 million servings of nutritious Wild Alaska Sole every year.

Protecting Fish Stocks and the Ecosystem

Our fishery has led the world in innovation to minimize bycatch and harm to the ocean ecosystems. We have collaborated with others and also funded our own research to improve our fishing gear to reduce ecosystem impacts by 90%. Multiple efforts to lower our bycatch have resulted in a nearly 50% decrease in the capture of non-targeted species. These improvements give us one of the lowest bycatch rates in the world compared to similar fisheries.

Contributing to Our Communities

Our fleet is homeported in Seattle, Washington, but spends 11 months each year fishing in the waters off the coast of Alaska, where we help to enhance the economies of coastal communities throughout the state Through employment, taxes, and the purchase of goods and services, we contribute to vibrant coastal communities that rely on fishing to survive and thrive.

Committed to Sustainability

Naturally abundant, Wild Alaska Sole is wild-caught in responsibly-managed pristine waters.

Why We Love Wild Alaska Sole
